Cure for the housebound blues

Unless you've been living in a cave, under a rock, or somewhere glamorous and warm, you are probably aware of the snowstorm we've all experienced here in humble Minnesota.  They predicted the snow on Thursday and for the first time in my 28 years, they were spot on.  Cold, dry snow started coming down in waves Friday night and didn't stop until after we shut our eyes at 10pm last night.  If being locked in my house for over 48 hours couldn't get me to blog, I'm not sure anything could.

Out with friends on Friday night, Kyle and I walked the mile home in what was at the time just the mild beginning.

Home at last

After a few hours yesterday at my good friend Rae's vintage pop up shop, Mighty Swell (where I scored some absolutely amazing clothes I can't wait to wear) I immediately wanted some spicy hot chocolate.  We almost always have milk and dark chocolate in the house, so Kyle gladly obliged my wishes and whipped up a batch.

Spicy Hot Cocoa for Snowdays

Serves Two

2 cups milk

1/8 tsp ground cayenne pepper

1 tbsp cocoa powder

1/4 tsp pumpkin pie spice

1 1/2 tsp sugar

1/2 tsp vanilla extract

2oz high quality chocolate, broken into pea sized bits

Whisk together milk and all dry ingredients except chocolate and vanilla .  Over low heat, bring to a boil watching carefully.  Remove from heat, add chocolate pieces and cover, waiting one minute.  Stir together and divvy out into individual cups.  Serves two in large mugs or three in small.
